Paris in Autumn

Last Public Showing

Yorkville
22 Yorkville Avenue, Toronto
June, 2011

In 2005, I spent time in Paris travelling, watching, drawing. These illustrations of ink and graphite arise from the deep connection -- and disconnection-- I felt in Paris. The iconic buildings were familiar, the armed military personnel stationed at the base of the Eiffel Tower were not. The food was exquisite, but the tourists were not. The art was other wordly, but nature was controlled and oppressed. These sketches, with detailed edges and generalized colour, with delicate ink wash and roughly drawn graphite borders, represent the dichotomy I felt as I wandered Parisian streets.

Each illustration is framed. Ink and graphite. $150.
