Cats are the only animal in our lives that are self-domesticated. They have chosen to live with us, to merge their wild souls with ours, to tolerate us. Every artist loves her cat, loves the mystery of wildness that permeates every strand of fur and every blink of the eye. I return to Riesling when I cannot create, when the world overwhelms, when my hands and eyes fail me. She is my connection with a quiet wilderness.
